Kakuro Cross Sums puzzles are very popular math puzzles.  All you need to solve them is good logic skills and to know how to add single digits.  But there is so much more to them than that!  Try them and see!

This Kakuro Cross Sums Puzzle featured in the More-or-Less Weekly Puzzles is rated by its creator (my computer) as Less Difficult.  The X-Sums 98 Viewer also has Easier, Less Difficult, and More Difficult Kakuro Cross Sums puzzles built into it for your enjoyment.

These Kakuro Cross Sums are just like the Dell puzzles and Penny Press puzzles called Cross Sums and Sum Totals.  Coincidentally, you will find many of my puzzles generated by X-Sums 98 in their magazines dating back to 1995 for Dell!

This puzzle was Computer-Generated and updated on June 18, 2000.  It requires X-Sums 98 Viewer Version 1.0.0.8 or any full version.  The displayed puzzle GIF is NOT the current puzzle.

"Kakuro Cross Sums" is a puzzle that is solved much like a crossword puzzle, using digits instead of letters.  Where an entry in a regular crossword may form a word, the digits in a Cross Sums entry add up to a sum.

The sums, or clues, are embedded in the dark squares of the puzzle immediately to the left of an across number or immediately above a down number.

Important!  Only the digits 1 through 9 are used and no digit may appear more than once in any one number.

If you prefer to solve with paper and pencil, I recommend using the X-Sums 98 Viewer to print it.  The viewer prints with nice, sharp characters at a better resolution than this online graphic has.  It can also print in Black and White or Color.  (Set the printer to the "Landscape" setting.)  NOTE: The Viewer can still print the built-in puzzles, but printing of the ~weekly puzzles has been disabled...Sorry...Read the ReadMe.txt file included with the Viewer.

The Kakuro Cross Sums viewer also has twelve built-in puzzles:  six 11x13 puzzles, two of each difficulty level;  and six 13x15 puzzles, two of each difficulty level.  This week's puzzle requires X-Sums 98 Viewer Version 1.0.0.8 or any full version of X-Sums 98, which can also be used to generate an unlimited number of Kakuro Cross Sums puzzles.

If the viewer says the puzzle is too big, change to the Viewer's Zoom Normal or Zoom Small option.  Shut down the viewer and try downloading the puzzle again.  (Quitting the program saves the settings to disk.)

Can't load the puzzle directly into the viewer?  Try shift/clicking the link and saving it locally.  Then use File|Open.

If a window pops up and tells you that you have an invalid X-Sums 98 file or a restricted puzzle, you probably have the wrong version of the viewer.  Either pick up a new one from my site or send me email.
